How to forward Google Voice calls to an AI receptionist

Google Voice has no dial codes - forwarding lives at voice.google.com and takes about 3 minutes: link the destination number, verify it with a 6-digit code, and switch it on under Settings, then Calls. This guide covers every click, including how to grab the verification code when an AI answers the call.

A Google Voice number

Personal and most Workspace Voice accounts work. One caveat from Google's own docs: linked numbers are not available on SIP Link accounts.

A number to forward to

Your AskSiya dashboard shows the dedicated local US number Siya answers. The 7-day free trial creates one in minutes, no credit card needed.

Your Siya dashboard open

Google verifies new linked numbers with a code delivered by call or text. Siya answers the verification call, and the code shows up in her live transcript.

Setup

Forward every call in 5 steps

  1. Get your forwarding number. Sign up at platform.asksiya.com (7-day free trial, no card) and copy the 10-digit Siya number from your dashboard.
  2. Add it as a linked number. Go to voice.google.com, click the Settings gear, and under Account find Linked numbers, then click New linked number and enter the 10-digit Siya number. (Mobile app: Settings, then Devices and numbers.)
  3. Verify with the 6-digit code. Choose verification by call. Google's automated voice reads a 6-digit code to whoever answers - open your AskSiya dashboard, read the code from the call transcript, and type it into Google Voice.
  4. Switch forwarding on. In Settings, open the Calls tab. Under Call forwarding, toggle the new linked number on, and under Incoming calls turn off any devices that should stop ringing (like the Google Voice app on your own phone).
  5. Make a test call. Ring your Google Voice number from a different phone. Siya should answer within about one ring, and the call appears on your AskSiya dashboard with a full transcript.
Good to know

Conditional forwarding on Google Voice: what exists instead

Unlike the big carriers, Google Voice exposes no busy or no-answer dial codes - it rings all of your enabled devices and linked numbers at once, and unanswered calls fall to Google's voicemail. Because Siya answers in about one ring, leaving her linked alongside your own devices means she will effectively win every call. Three practical patterns:

  • Siya answers everything (recommended): toggle your own devices off under Incoming calls and let the linked Siya number take every call, 24/7. Add your cell as a transfer number in your Siya settings so "can I talk to a person" still reaches you in seconds.
  • After-hours only: toggle the Siya linked number on when you close and off when you open - two clicks each way at voice.google.com.
  • Per-caller rules: Settings, then Calls, then Custom call forwarding routes chosen contacts to a specific linked number, per Google's custom forwarding documentation.

If you need true busy/no-answer forwarding, do it one layer down: port or forward the underlying business line at the carrier level instead (see our Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile guides).

Verify

Test it, and turn it off any time

Test it by calling your Google Voice number from another phone: Siya should answer in about one ring, greet callers with your business name, and the conversation lands on your dashboard with a transcript. Try ordering something or asking for hours to see the full flow.

To turn it off: go to Settings, then Calls, and toggle the Siya linked number off under Call forwarding (or remove it entirely under Linked numbers). Re-enable the devices you switched off and calls ring exactly as before. Nothing about your Google Voice number changes.

Why bother

Why forward to an AI receptionist

Google Voice forwards the call; Siya answers it. She picks up 24/7 in about one ring, takes restaurant orders and hotel bookings straight onto your dashboard, speaks 100+ languages, and starts at $19/mo for 60 minutes with a 7-day free trial, no card required. Plans auto-upgrade as your call volume grows, so callers never hit a busy signal. See what Google voicemail is quietly costing with the free missed call revenue calculator.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Choose verification by call. Google's automated voice reads a 6-digit code to whoever answers - Siya picks up, and the code appears in the live transcript on your AskSiya dashboard. Read it there and type it into Google Voice. Text verification also works if the destination number accepts SMS.

Not with dial codes - Google Voice rings enabled devices and linked numbers together, and unanswered calls fall to Google voicemail. Since Siya answers in about one ring, the practical patterns are: let her take everything and transfer real-person requests to your cell, toggle her on after hours only, or use Custom call forwarding for specific contacts.

Yes. Forwarding through a linked number changes nothing about ownership - callers still dial your Google Voice number, and you can remove the link any time under Settings, then Linked numbers.

Two common reasons: SIP Link accounts do not support linked numbers, and some Google Workspace Voice policies hide the setting. Check with your Workspace admin, or manage the number from a personal Google Voice account instead.
